As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population
of 3,368. The estimated population, in 2003, was 3,417.
The village is located on the south bank of the Hudson River. South
Glens Falls is located at 43°17'47" North, 73°38'3" West (43.296406,
-73.634296). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a
total area of 3.9 km˛ (1.5 mi˛). 3.5 km˛ (1.4 mi˛) of it is land and 0.4 km˛
(0.1 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 9.40% water.
As of the census of 2000, there are 3,368 people, 1,523 households, and
851 families residing in the village. The population density is 963.3/km˛
(2,500.6/mi˛). There are 1,616 housing units at an average density of
462.2/km˛ (1,199.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 98.52% White,
0.68% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.00% Pacific
Islander, 0.12% from other races, and 0.45% from two or more races. 0.62% of
the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,523 households out of which 25.0% have
children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.9% are married couples
living together, 12.1% have a female householder with no husband present,
and 44.1% are non-families. 36.6% of all households are made up of
individuals and 17.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or
